Baby’s Named a Bad, Bad Thing

June 8th, 2008

A Primer on Parent Cruelty. Oh this is so very, very bad. Sure I get a lot of crazy baby names on the site, but hey these are all just ideas from people. It’s completly up to you what you name your child. Let me help you not pick the worst, or most common name. I’m here to help. really. :)

Site description:

It’s simple. Some parents are just plain crazy. But few are as crazy as many soon-to- be parents, who, wrapped up in the fear and anticipation, the social status and expectations, go just plain mad. Mad as march hares with swollen ankles and morning sickness.

The following is a catalog of naming questions and suggestions posted on several different baby naming bulletin boards going back as far as early 2001. All entries are left unedited except for length. As you will see, some parents-to-be have gone so far into the realm of baby-obsession they have lost track of the real, adult world. Their view is so skewed their only concerns are a) making their child “unique” and b) trying to keep the kid from being teased, often with terrible results.

Steel yourself, take a few deep breaths, and read.

Expectant parents consult list of baby names

May 11th, 2008

From: ctvbc.ca
With a report from CTV British Columbia’s St.John Alexander

For parents, it’s one of the most important decisions they will make for their baby. The most popular baby names in 2007 for boys are Ethan, Jacob and Noah, and for girls, Ava, Emily and Sophia, according to the provincial statistics agency. “We understand that this name has got to be with this child into its adult life,” said soon-to-be father Darren Neuhaus. Neuhaus and his wife Candace are expecting their first child in about three months.

“We don’t want the Michael or the John of everyday, but we don’t want to make it too much like, Apple,” he said, referring to the daughter of actress Gwyneth Paltrow. Gerry Lewarne at the Crocodile Unique Baby Store in Kitsilano said new parents are returning to old names. “They’re coming back to the old names, like Jack and Sam and Joe,” he said. And other names were all the rage for several years — but have now disappeared — like Britney.

The most popular name of all time in B.C. is Robert.

Zoo Asks Public To Help Name Baby Kiwi Chick

WASHINGTON — Zoo officials are inviting the public to help name a baby kiwi chick that hatched on March 7. The public can vote online for one of three Maori names for the North Island brown kiwi chick, which is a boy. The Maori are the native people of New Zealand. The North Island brown species of kiwi is the country’s national bird.

The possible names are:

* Koa (KHO ah): happy, jubilant
* Titi (TEE tee): ray of light
* Hiwa (HEE wah): cheerful, alert

Zoo officials said the names reflect the chick’s lively demeanor. He tried to walk on his first day and refused to keep still while keepers tried to weigh him. It is the third chick to hatch in the zoo’s history. Voting goes until April 22. People can read updates about the chick and watch it online on the zoo’s Web site.
